These services are offered to companies that wish to conduct a test or trial for livestock feed products, additives and others. Among the facilities available are:

• Assisted Solar Dryer (ASD)
• Feed processing equipment
• Experimental plot for animal feed farming (trial plot)
• Crop field/plot for experimental use of fertilizers, pesticides or additives (for cassava, grass forage and others)

Assisted Solar Dryer (ASD)

This dryer can be used to dry herbs, grains and other products. Great heat generated from the diesel heater allows the drying process to be carried out at all time regardless of weather conditions.

Quarantine Facilities

The strategic location of the farm which is near the border of Malaysia-Thailand gives an advantage in the process of importing the livestock such as cattle and buffalo. We provide animal quarantine service for livestock brought into Malaysia through Bukit Kayu Hitam. This service is in accordance with the provisions under the Veterinary Law in which it is stated that all livestock must undergo a period of quarantine for the purpose of screening for diseases before they can be distributed locally. The Animal Quarantine Station (Temporary) of LTSSB or known as SKH (S) is monitored by the Department of Veterinary Services (Kedah) and MAQIS. The operation commenced in October 2010 and has the ability to accommodate as many as 300 heads of cattle/buffalo at one time. We offer a variety of packages that can meet the customer’s quarantine requirements for as low as RM 2/per cow/per day. LTSSB also provides livestock feed, medicines and vaccines as well as identification tags (RFID Tag). For more information, feel free to contact us:

Other Facilites

1. Equipment store room

All livestock related tools and equipments except medicines and drugs are kept here. It also doubles as worker resting area.

2. Weighing Station

It accommodates weighing scale to weigh the livestock for sale. This facility is sheltered to prevent weathering of the equipment. All weighing scales are calibrated by authorized dealer licensed by the Metrology Corporation Malaysia Sdn Bhd.

3. Cattle Ramp

For easier loading and unloading of animals from lorry, a cattle ramp made of concrete is used.

4. Slaughter House

We provide slaughter service according to customer request. This facility can process up to 5 heads of livestock at one time. Concrete flooring and complete drainage help ensure the cleanliness of the premises.

5. Treatment Area

Sick animals are attended to in this roofed area. It is equipped with cattle crush for the purpose of easy handling of the sick animals and also to ensure that they don’t further injure themselves and the attending personnel.

6. Septic Ponds

Two 2-series type aerobic ponds were designed to accommodate the livestock dung. This is crucial so as to make sure the waste does not pollute the environment. The dung is dug out bi-monthly and the solid material is dried up for fertilizer for own use and also for sale.

Source of Water

Water for drinking and cleaning comes from a pond that is located about 400metres from the feedlot. The water is pumped out using a water pump powered by Nissan TD27 diesel engine. Prior to use, a test is carried out to ensure that the water is free from harmful pathogens such as salmonella sp. and E. Coli sp.

Source of Feed

Green fodder such as napier, guinea and ruzy grass forms the bulk of the livestock feed. The plants are harvested by using a forage harvester machine. Other feed types are concentrated palm oil kernel pellet, leucaena leaves, cassava chips and leaves and corn occasionally.

Machinery

There are two types of machineries for daily work use as illustrated below:

Forage Harvester

This tractor-mounted equipment is used for the harvesting of forage for animal feed. It is usually mounted on a Massey Ferguson tractor. Currently we have three units of forage harvester machine – two units of 400kg capacity and one unit of 600kg capacity.

Front Loader

A BOBCAT™ front loader is used to scrape the waste off the floor of the paddock and to transfer sacks of concentrated feed from feed bunker to the feedlot.

Workforce

One supervisor and one field worker attend to the daily operation of the feedlot. Their jobs include maintaining the cleanliness of the feedlot area and feeding the animals.
