Oil Palm

Oil Palm is the highest oil producer among perennial oil yielding crops.

Kedah SEDC (KSEDC) has been involved in the Oil Palm business in the Kedah state since 1993. Presently, with 3,000 hectares of oil palm plantation KSEDC strives to excel in the Oil Palm business by venturing into new growth area for oil palm.

Oil Palm has excellent health attributes. It is rich in vitamins A and E and is cholesterol free. Oil Palm has successfully been extracted in formulation of margarine and can also be used in the manufacture of biscuits, ice creams, soaps, shampoos etc. On the other hand, palm kernel oil has a variety of industrial uses.

Soil condition and the warm moist climate of Malaysia are very suitable for oil palm planting. Deep well-drained medium loam soil, rich in humus is the most suitable for oil palm cultivation. Oil palm requires a well distributed rainfall of 2,500 to 4,000 mm per annum and a temperature range of 19-33° C. It is a water-loving crop and it requires adequate irrigation. The crop responds well to drip irrigation and yields are reported to increase by at least 20%.

Oil palm is most suitable being planted in a triangular system with a 9 X 9 X 9 m spacing, accommodating about 145 plants per hectare of land. The beautiful aspect of this commodity is that the planting can be done in any season. However, the best period is June to December. Seedlings of 10-14 months of age are best suited for planting.

Oil palm requires adequate irrigation, as it is a fast growing crop with high productivity and biomass production. For yielding palms of above three years age, a minimum of 150 litres per day is required. In older plants the requirement goes up to 20 litres per day.

Fertilizers are preferably applied in 3-4 split doses during the initial stage of oil palm plantation up to its planted 3rd year, some of the light feeder inter-crops such as cereals, vegetables and grasses can also be grown.

Oil palm starts to bear fruits at the age of three and half years onwards and its economic life varies from 30 to 35 years. The yield of oil palm varies according to age and management. Under average management conditions in a mature plantation (8 to 9 years old), yield of 15-18 tonnes of fresh fruit bunches (FFBs) per hectare is expected. Under good maintenance and management, yield of up to 21-25 metric tonnes of FFBs per hectare is possible.

These grades are commonly used in tyre and automotive industry as well as in general moulded and extruded rubber products. Our SMR rubber is of the best quality due to our stringent quality control of the raw material starting right from our own plantation and processed with customer’s satisfaction in mind.

Tapping Panel Shades

Provides full cover to latex cup from rainwater drip and drift

Rainfall upsets tapping and productions considerably. Rainwater that flows down the trunk from the crown causes the panel to be wet and upsets the flow of latex along the tapping cut when tapping is carried out. Fixing a rain guard over the panel overcomes such problem. This tool was introduced in 2011 to our estate in Padang Terap and it was given the trade name of ’Tapping Panel Shade’.
The tool is installed above the tapping panel to avoid the tapping panel from getting wet and keep tapping results during rain. The main problem faced by estate owner or rubber smallholders during the rainy season is the tapping panel’s wet condition and result nicks damaged by rain. Rubber trees can only be tapped when the tapping panel is dry. The tapping shade is protective and effective especially in the rainy season.

Golden Bio-mix Fertilizer

Ratio – Organic: Inorganic Matters (65%:35%)

KLPK Ventures is a subsidiary of Kumpulan Ladang-ladang Perbadanan Kedah Sdn Bhd (KLPK). The company has been working towards producing bio-organic fertilizer in line with the National target which is to increase the usage of organic fertilizer throughout the country and to reduce the usage of inorganic fertilizer. It is most challenging due to stiff competition from other companies who have established themselves earlier in the bio-organic fertilizer market in Malaysia.

KLPK Ventures runs its own bio-organic fertilizer factory with the annual capacity of 12,000 MT. The factory is located in Ladang Sungai Ular, Kulim, Kedah. Operational since September 2010, the bio-organic fertilizer produced is in the form of powder and granular. Extensive trials conducted in estates belonging to PKNK under KLPK management have shown impressive result with vigorous growth of both crops (rubber and oil palm).
Marketed under the brand name Golden Bio-Mix, the fertilizer is formulated with the ratio of organic to inorganic matters at 65%:35% specifically for rubber and oil palm and applicable to other crops as well such as rice/fruits/vegetables.

We use Effective Microbes (EM), humic acid and other organic matters which are incorporated with inorganic matters to enhance soil structure and facilitate better nutrients and water absorption and retention thus promoting higher yield and better quality especially for commodity crops.


Golden Bio-Mix Fertilizer is produced by blending compost made of spent fruit bunches as the main ingredient with other organic materials and mixtures of chemical nutrients such as Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), and Kalium (K).

KLPK has been involved in the livestock business since 1995. Activities such as cattle and buffalo feedlots, integrated free grazing in oil palm plantation and breeding of new cross breed are carried out at our operation centre in Ladang Laka Temin, Bukit Kayu Hitam and Ladang Aman Jaya, Sungai Petani. Among the livestock that are reared and bred here are:

Brahman Breed

This type of breed is well known among the buyers especially butchers. The general features of Brahman breed are:

• Body size (medium to large)
• Weight can reach up to 800 kg
• Colour (white, grey or mixture/combination of colours)
• Long ears with a hump on the back of the body
• With or without horns
Kedah-Kelantan (KK) Breed

This type of breed is generally favoured because it is smaller in stature and the price is cheaper. Sales are usually brisk during the Aqiqah, Qurban season and for feasts. The specification of Kedah-Kelantan breed is as follows:

• Body size (small to medium)
• Average weight (180 to 350 kg)
• Colour (reddish brown, black or a combination of these colours with a hump on its back)
• Often cross-bred with Brahman species
• Highly resistant towards disease and climate


Pineapple or its scientific name Ananas Comosus is a tropical plant in the Bromeliaceae family

We produced high quality fruits through modern and good agriculture practice farming. There are two varieties of pineapple which are MD2 and Moris that grown in our plantation areas in Kedah. The tasty fruit has been produced in our dry and well-drained plantation land in Bukit Kayu Hitam and Pendang areas.

Mango is a juicy stone fruit (drupe) produced from numerous species of tropical trees belonging to the flowering plant genus Mangifera, cultivated mostly for their edible fruit. Most of these species are found in nature as wild mangoes. The genus belongs to the cashew family Anacardiaceae.

We produced high quality fruits through modern and good agriculture practice farming. There are two varieties of mangoes which are Harummanis and Chokanan that grown in our plantation areas in Kedah. The tasty fruit has been produced in our dry and well-drained plantation land in Ladang Charok Genting Bunga, Kuala Nerang areas.

RBD Palm Olein

RBD palm olein is a clear Golden yellow liquid at room temperature. It is obtained by fractionating RBD Palm Oil by separating liquid parts (olein) from solid parts (Stearin).

RBD palm olein is also being used as frying oil by major food
industries, mainly snacks and ready-to-eat foods etc. Also been used as a raw material for to produce margarines and shortenings.
